Nintendo 3DS - Enter Queen portrait comp - (5/20/2012)

The X Factor judge has spent months organising the 60th anniversary spectacular.

It will feature stars including Elton John, Kylie Minogue and Stevie Wonder performing on a specially constructed stage at the front of Buckingham Palace.

Gary told how he went to the palace to brief Her Majesty on the concert — which will be shown live on BBC1 next month — but that her most pressing concern was how long it would take to dismantle the stage.

The take that singer said: “Only a couple of weeks ago I got the job of presenting the plan of the concert to her.

“I learned everything about this gig, I know every act that’s on, I even know every band member in Madness. There’s not a question she can throw at me where I am going to falter.

“I went, ‘Your Majesty, this is what the concert is going to look like, it’s going to be incredible, this is where it’s going to be, in front of the palace’. she looked at me and went, ‘So, all that equipment, how long is it going to take to dismantle it?’

“At this point I’m guessing and I say, ‘Oh about six or seven hours’ so she went, ‘The concert’s going to finish at half ten at night which means you’ll be doing that all night while my family live at the front of the palace’.

“A little bead of sweat ran down and I was like, ‘So, moving on Your Majesty — this is the royal box, this is where you’ll be sitting’.

“She said, ‘How am I going to get there?’. it was something else I didn’t know the answer to.

“She is incredible for her age — very, very smart. She’s excited about the whole weekend, she really is.”

Speaking on tonight’s Graham Norton Show on BBC1, cheeky Gary speculated how the Queen would travel from the palace to the concert.

Demands … The Queen

He said: “It’ll probably be a golf buggy, a nice one, the best golf buggy you can get.”

Gary also revealed how he couldn’t wait to return to The X Factor.

But he said he was sick of being the nasty judge — and would instead be mr Nice Guy.

He said: “I’m a very serious person but I want to enjoy it a bit more this time around, especially the auditions side of it.

“I was always like, ‘I’m the serious music guy’ but actually 98 per cent of the acts are absolutely awful, so I want to enjoy them this time around.” The X Factor yesterday officially confirmed Dermot O’Leary would be fronting the new series — months after he started working on it.

Simon Cowell said: “Dermot has done a brilliant job for the past five years — he is mr X Factor!”

Meanwhile, Prince Harry has made his recording debut after being recruited by Gary Barlow to play on his Jubilee single.

The Prince, a keen music fan, agreed while in Jamaica to bash a tambourine which the take that star recorded to use in the song.

Tribute … Prince Harry meets Bob Marley’s widow Rita in JamaicaArthur Edwards

The track, called Sing, was written by Barlow and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and also features the chart-topping Military Wives. When it is released later this month it is expected to be the first chart single to feature a specially recorded member of the royals.

The Prince features alongside a number of notable names including celebrated reggae rhythm section Sly & Robbie, plus guitarist Ernest Ranglin, famed for playing on the Dr no soundtrack as well as on timeless Sixties hit My Boy Lollipop.

Barlow, who took his laptop around the world to record various artists, said he had become fond of Harry after meeting him a few times. he said: “He’s fun and relaxed and he’s a really nice kid.”

But asked if the prince exhibited any musical talent, Barlow said simply: “No.”

He added: “He’s a great guy Harry — a lot of people I met in Australia, he was their favourite. they loved him, especially the older women. I think he’s one of the Queen’s favourites as well.” Barlow revealed that Prince Charles was the brains behind his globe-trotting Jubilee single.

He had been planning to put it together in the UK but the Prince of Wales advised him that the Queen would appreciate a single drawn from across the Commonwealth.

Charles’s idea led Barlow to travel to Australia, Kenya, Jamaica and the Solomon Islands in search of guest musicians, singers and inspiration.

The journey will feature in a BBC1 documentary Gary Barlow: on Her Majesty’s Service, to be screened in the coming weeks.

Gary said of the project: “It was one of the best things I have ever done, like nothing else I’ve ever tried before.”

Nintendo 3DS - Vita Sales Increase, Resident Evil Huge in Japan - (5/20/2012)

As always, Japanese firm Media create has released its weekly sales data. this week’s trove of information covers the week from April 23rd through April 29th, and has been translated by Andriasang.

Nintendo 3DS is still seeing strong sales, though PlayStation Vita had a bit of an uptick as well, likely on the strength of a new PlayStation Vita game seen in the sales data at the bottom of this article. Vita sales are still entirely unimpressive, but it sold over 4,000 more units this week than last week. PSP is also selling much better than it usually does on the strength of some new PSP-centric game offerings.

  • 1.) Nintendo 3DS – 74,282
  • 2.) PlayStation Portable – 22,457
  • 3.) PlayStation 3 – 21,114
  • 4.) PlayStation Vita – 12,299
  • 5.) Nintendo Wii – 9,200
  • 6.) Microsoft Xbox 360 – 1,327

The winner on the software front is the new Resident Evil game (known as Biohazard in Japan) called Raccoon City. Mario Party 9 on Wii and Surge Concerto: Ciel no Surge on PlayStation Vita also did very well.

Overall, the Nintendo 3DS accounted for 7 games on the top 20 list, with PSP raking up 6. PlayStation 3 had three games chart, Nintendo Wii had two games, and then there were two surprises: PlayStation Vita and Xbox 360 both had a game chart each.

Nintendo 3DS - No Kid Icarus: Uprising sequel says Masahiro Sakurai - (5/20/2012)

Kid Icarus: Uprising creator says it’ll be another 25 years before Pit takes to the skies again.

No more arrows, no more saving goddesses, no more Kid Icarus on Nintendo DSes. Kid Icarus: Uprising, released in March for Nintendo 3DS, was the first brand new game to star winged hero Pit to his a Nintendo console in 25 years. It’s quite a good game, despite its frustrating touch screen controls. if anything, it was an imperfect foundation on which to build a new series for Nintendo, another spoke in its wheel of franchises that keeps the company rolling. now its creator Masahiro Sakurai says that a sequel is unlikely.

Speaking with IGN on Wednesday, Sakurai was asked if he and his Kid Icarus team Project Sora had built a “rich, lasting universe so that it could be easily returned to.” He put the kibosh on that right quick: “If by ‘lasting universe’ you mean to ask if there’s a sequel, the answer is no.”

“We pushed a lot into the game in order to let people have this short yet deep experience, but the novelty of that would likely grow thin in the next game,” said Sakurai, “For now, my thought is that perhaps we’ll see someone else besides me make another Kid Icarus in another 25 years.”

You are a mean person, mr. Sakurai. First you build an incredibly fun game that physically harms the people playing it with hand cramps and then tell them they’re playing it wrong. then you dash their hopes, telling them they’ll have to wait another quarter century for a follow up with more gracious controls. Why do you hate us so much? Is it because we said Super Smash Bros. Melee was better than Super Smash Bros. Brawl?

While Sakurai’s statements might seem like a second death for the obsessives that have carried a torch for Kid Icarus all these years, take a deep breath and then a swig of calming, delicious water. Sakurai said that he and Project Sora won’t make another Kid Icarus game and that he thinks he’s made a definitive statement that doesn’t need revision. He’s wrong of course. Kid Icarus: Uprising needs better controls, no questions asked. He’s also wrong that there won’t be another Kid Icarus for 25 years. if Uprising sells, Nintendo will make another Kid Icarus. it may very well farm out the project to one of the Western studios it’s come to rely on for quality games. it was rumored for years actually that Metroid Prime creators Retro Studios were working on a Kid Icarus reboot. Maybe they’ll get the next crack.

F-Zero – Nintendo’s Best But Least Known Series

F-Zero is one of Nintendo’s most prominent series. its games are on nearly every Nintendo console known. The SNES, N64, GBA, Nintendo DS all have been graced with the appearance of an F-Zero game. however, F-Zero is one of the most underated and ignored game series on the Nintendo. F-Zero is a futuristic racing series that takes place in the late 21st century.

Each race consists of around 30 racers each competing for the goal. however, unlike most racing games, F-Zero does not have any items or special features. It is just plain racing. High speeds of over 2000 miles per hour are not common and killing many racers to get ahead is the norm. In this series, racers compete in a variety of courses such as Port Town, big Blue, Mute City, White Land and Red Canyon. The main character in the series is Captain Falcon.

He is a bounty hunter who rides the fast and powerful Blue Falcon. however, the series has quite a story line such as defeating evil enemies such as the Black Shadow, Zoda and Blood Falcon. In F-Zero GX a story mode was added that allowed gamers to compete in a variety of courses with intended goals. also, in F-Zero GX, gamers can build and optomize cars with custom parts that can be bought at a shot. with all of these features, one would have to ask why this series is so underrated and little known. This answer to me is still a mystery. It is a great series and remains as one of Nintendo’s best series.

Nintendo 3DS - StreetPass 3DS Community in Costa Rica: Hardcore Gamers Meet Nature - (5/20/2012)

Source: StreetPassCR Forum

The next time you take a trip to one of our national parks or volcanoes; do not be surprised if you see a group of young men and women hunched over portable gaming systems, engaged in furious button-mashing with incredible thumb dexterity.  they are members of the growing Nintendo StreetPass 3DS community in Costa Rica, video game enthusiasts who break the tired stereotype of the lone gamer sitting in a darkened bedroom surrounded by junk food wrappers.

StreetPass is a networking protocol created by Nintendo and installed into the 3DS portable gaming system.  it allows players to connect with each other, exchange information, and engage in social interaction.  StreetPass is enabled by Mii Plaza, an application that comes with two mini-games to entice players to test the system and find other like-minded 3DS users.   StreetPass supports multiplayer sessions wirelessly or via an Internet connection.  when the 3DS is in sleep mode, StreetPass scans for open signals, exchanges information, and downloads content automatically.

Ever since its debut, StreetPass has managed to break the mold of reclusive hardcore gamers with its social features.  StreetPass groups in Costa Rica and other nations are growing their ranks, and gamers are loving the social interaction and the meetings that often take place in the outdoors.

There are quite a few games that take advantage of the StreetPass protocol, including special versions of classic franchises such as Street Fighter, Mario Kart, Super Mario, and Lego Star Wars.  Kid Icarus and Mario Kart seem to be the favorite among Tico gamers who are members of the StreetPass CR community.

Video game culture in Costa Rica is growing at a healthy pace, as evidenced by the StreetPass community and the Boom Con celebration of popular culture that took place in San Jose earlier this year.  while Boom Con was mostly focused on comic book lore and underground comix; video games, anime and cosplay also had a strong presence at the event.  This past Sunday at the National Center of Culture (CENAC), fans of Japanese animation, manga, and cosplay gathered for Chibi Fest 2012 –and the StreetPass CR community was present.

There is an additional advantage to StreetPass: it drains the battery of the Nintendo 3DS faster, which has prompted Tico members of the StreetPass community to put away their portable gaming systems and engage in other activities, such as hikes, picnic lunches and even mejengas (impromptu football matches).

ACE 3DS & gold3ds – the semblance of Nintendo DSi used to be first declared

the semblance of Nintendo DSi used to be first declared last October 2 of two008 in a conference of the corporate in Tokyo, Japan. ever because then, the sport console has been released from Japan and within the commenceof two00ninethe sport console and dsi accessories could also be manufactured and released in different places. The design of the DSi is from an older model the Nintendo DS Lite. With the DSi, there many new includes and alters that couldmake the former model lokprehistoric.

The dsi is thinner by 12% making the sport console straightforwardto hold around. it mayslot right into any small bag or jacket pocket. it comes with a bigr screen size that may be 17% bigger than the old model. this permits the U.S.er to have a transparenter view of skinnygs. it also allows the sport creators to make new games that work well with wider screen game consoles. it also comes with dsi accessories to make the gaming experience better for all folksgame enthusiast. The DSi also has 2 VGA cameras, one focused within the U.S.er and the opposite at the backside of the highest screen. This makes the sport console also better than the opposite handheld consoles released by the Nintendo Company.

an enormous developmentof the DSi is the addition of a card slot for an SD memory card. this permits the U.S.er to take pictures employingthe sport console and reserve it within the memory card. The saved knowledgecan also be later transferred in a pc or perhaps a Wii game console. The memory card also allows the storage of music and video files that may be played employingthe DSi game console. that is the part where dsi accessories can come in useful. With it, you’ll be able to enjoy music out of your non-publicDSi. the one problem with the addition of the cardboard slot is that it has replaced the GBA slot that makes the older version compatible with other games of Nintendo that type ofs the guitar hero.

With the discharge of the sport console, also comes the discharge of diversedsi accessories. many accessories differ within the ir purpose. a fewfunction a boxfor the sport console. this permits the U.S.er to hold across the hand held game console to almostanywhere as it’s well protected. along with offer protection toion, there also are silicon protectors that couldsave youany unwanted scratches within the game console. these accessories doesn’t include the acquisition of the DSi but are purchased separately. there are lots of manufacturers of dsi accessories and a few of them don’t seem to be even part of the Nintendo Company. However, their products are considered top of the road, usuallyalso better than the onlys produced by Nintendo. they only cost greater than their original counterportionsdid.

Another developmentwithin the game console is the addition of an upgradeable firmware. this can be allows the sport console to be in par with the most recent handheld game consoles.

This week’s lineup of Nintendo downloadable games is being highlighted by the demo of Rayman Origins which can now be downloaded by 3DS users. other content that is currently live for DS devices includes Kirby’s Block Ball, Chronicles of Vampires: The Awakening, a trailer of Men In Black 3 to watch using the Nintendo Video service and an update for Mario Kart 7.

Rayman Origins for the 3DS has been in the pipeline for far too long now, and hence the news of it having received a June 5, 2012 release date is sure to please fans. The demo can be downloaded currently through the eShop for free by all 3DS owners. The 1995 Game Boy classic, Kirby’s Block Ball has also made its way to the 3DS this week. this block-clearing title has Kirby bouncing all around the screen to destroy blocks and enemies.

Gamers following the developments around Mario Kart 7 may perhaps know that three of its tracks – Wuhu Loop, Maka Wuhu and Bowser Castle 1, contain shortcuts that provide players with extreme advantages. With the latest mandatory patch for this title, all these shortcuts have been permanently eliminated.

Chronicles of Vampires: The Awakening, which complements December’s Chronicles of Vampires: Origin, can now be purchased by gamers for their DSi as well as 3DS systems. this hidden object adventure features puzzles and mini-games that help gamers uncover the conspiracy of wicked creatures, and rescue humanity by uncovering a shocking truth.

Nintendo 3DS - Nintendo to Release New 3D DS - (5/19/2012)

The Nintendo 3DS, as it is currently named, will provide 3D graphics without the need for glasses, as stated in a Tuesday press release by Nintendo. the new 3DS will also be compatible with all existing Nintendo DS and DSi titles.

Nintendo declined to state more in the press release, saying that more details will become available in June at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. There are no definite answers about the nature of the 3D display, with Japanese magazine Asahi suggesting that the 3DS will use a parallax barrier LCD from Sharp. others speculate that it will use face tracking technology, which shifts the perspective of the game’s view according to the position of a player’s face, guaged by a front-facing video camera.

This is not Nintendo’s first foray into the realm of 3D gaming. Nintendo released the Virtual Boy in the USA on August 14, 1995. the system was never warmly received, and with continued price drops failing to revive sales, it was discontinued the following year. the Virtual Boy used two 1 x 224 linear arrays of red LEDs with rapidly oscillating mirrors employed to scan the image across each eye, creating the illusion of a full field of pixels. With two arrays and two mirrors, the images could be varied for a 3D view.

I currently own a Virtual Boy. It has a hallowed place at the bottom of my closet. Thankfully, I did not purchase at the full retail price of $180. I bought it on eBay several years ago for about $30. There are some very fun games for the system, including Red Alarm, but it never caught on enough for developers to pay attention to the system.

The DS remains a top seller, beating the Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 3 for total hardware sales in February at 613,200 units.
