As always, Japanese firm Media create has released its weekly sales data. this week’s trove of information covers the week from April 23rd through April 29th, and has been translated by Andriasang.

Nintendo 3DS is still seeing strong sales, though PlayStation Vita had a bit of an uptick as well, likely on the strength of a new PlayStation Vita game seen in the sales data at the bottom of this article. Vita sales are still entirely unimpressive, but it sold over 4,000 more units this week than last week. PSP is also selling much better than it usually does on the strength of some new PSP-centric game offerings.

Overall, the Nintendo 3DS accounted for 7 games on the top 20 list, with PSP raking up 6. PlayStation 3 had three games chart, Nintendo Wii had two games, and then there were two surprises: PlayStation Vita and Xbox 360 both had a game chart each.

Kid Icarus: Uprising creator says it’ll be another 25 years before Pit takes to the skies again.

No more arrows, no more saving goddesses, no more Kid Icarus on Nintendo DSes. Kid Icarus: Uprising, released in March for Nintendo 3DS, was the first brand new game to star winged hero Pit to his a Nintendo console in 25 years. It’s quite a good game, despite its frustrating touch screen controls. if anything, it was an imperfect foundation on which to build a new series for Nintendo, another spoke in its wheel of franchises that keeps the company rolling. now its creator Masahiro Sakurai says that a sequel is unlikely.

Speaking with IGN on Wednesday, Sakurai was asked if he and his Kid Icarus team Project Sora had built a “rich, lasting universe so that it could be easily returned to.” He put the kibosh on that right quick: “If by ‘lasting universe’ you mean to ask if there’s a sequel, the answer is no.”

“We pushed a lot into the game in order to let people have this short yet deep experience, but the novelty of that would likely grow thin in the next game,” said Sakurai, “For now, my thought is that perhaps we’ll see someone else besides me make another Kid Icarus in another 25 years.”

You are a mean person, mr. Sakurai. First you build an incredibly fun game that physically harms the people playing it with hand cramps and then tell them they’re playing it wrong. then you dash their hopes, telling them they’ll have to wait another quarter century for a follow up with more gracious controls. Why do you hate us so much? Is it because we said Super Smash Bros. Melee was better than Super Smash Bros. Brawl?

While Sakurai’s statements might seem like a second death for the obsessives that have carried a torch for Kid Icarus all these years, take a deep breath and then a swig of calming, delicious water. Sakurai said that he and Project Sora won’t make another Kid Icarus game and that he thinks he’s made a definitive statement that doesn’t need revision. He’s wrong of course. Kid Icarus: Uprising needs better controls, no questions asked. He’s also wrong that there won’t be another Kid Icarus for 25 years. if Uprising sells, Nintendo will make another Kid Icarus. it may very well farm out the project to one of the Western studios it’s come to rely on for quality games. it was rumored for years actually that Metroid Prime creators Retro Studios were working on a Kid Icarus reboot. Maybe they’ll get the next crack.

F-Zero is one of Nintendo’s most prominent series. its games are on nearly every Nintendo console known. The SNES, N64, GBA, Nintendo DS all have been graced with the appearance of an F-Zero game. however, F-Zero is one of the most underated and ignored game series on the Nintendo. F-Zero is a futuristic racing series that takes place in the late 21st century.

Each race consists of around 30 racers each competing for the goal. however, unlike most racing games, F-Zero does not have any items or special features. It is just plain racing. High speeds of over 2000 miles per hour are not common and killing many racers to get ahead is the norm. In this series, racers compete in a variety of courses such as Port Town, big Blue, Mute City, White Land and Red Canyon. The main character in the series is Captain Falcon.

He is a bounty hunter who rides the fast and powerful Blue Falcon. however, the series has quite a story line such as defeating evil enemies such as the Black Shadow, Zoda and Blood Falcon. In F-Zero GX a story mode was added that allowed gamers to compete in a variety of courses with intended goals. also, in F-Zero GX, gamers can build and optomize cars with custom parts that can be bought at a shot. with all of these features, one would have to ask why this series is so underrated and little known. This answer to me is still a mystery. It is a great series and remains as one of Nintendo’s best series.

Ever since its debut, StreetPass has managed to break the mold of reclusive hardcore gamers with its social features.  StreetPass groups in Costa Rica and other nations are growing their ranks, and gamers are loving the social interaction and the meetings that often take place in the outdoors.

This is not Nintendo’s first foray into the realm of 3D gaming. Nintendo released the Virtual Boy in the USA on August 14, 1995. the system was never warmly received, and with continued price drops failing to revive sales, it was discontinued the following year. the Virtual Boy used two 1 x 224 linear arrays of red LEDs with rapidly oscillating mirrors employed to scan the image across each eye, creating the illusion of a full field of pixels. With two arrays and two mirrors, the images could be varied for a 3D view.

I currently own a Virtual Boy. It has a hallowed place at the bottom of my closet. Thankfully, I did not purchase at the full retail price of $180. I bought it on eBay several years ago for about $30. There are some very fun games for the system, including Red Alarm, but it never caught on enough for developers to pay attention to the system.

The DS remains a top seller, beating the Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 3 for total hardware sales in February at 613,200 units.

Sudoku by Nikoli is basically a 3DS version of the well known number-placement puzzle game. this title includes a total of fifty puzzles and sells on the eShop at a price of 4.99 USD (approx. Rs. 265). Paul’s Shooting Adventure 2 is another handheld title in this week’s list of Nintendo downloadable games. It involves players controlling Paul and his twin brother, as they use their combined powers and weapons fight off the Insectians. It can be picked up from the DSi Shop as well as the eShop at 200 Points and 1.99 USD (approx. Rs. 105), respectively.

Both the Wii titles from this week’s Nintendo downloadable games are now available to be purchased through the Wii Shop Channel at 900 Points each.
