Minor niggles Zelda: Skyward Sword is quite possibly my favourite game of this generation and an excellent justification for the use of motion controls in a game. I’m pretty much near the end (I think) and only encountered two problems with the Wii MotionPlus; it somehow reversed all gestures as if I was holding the remote backwards and upside down. Though this happened in quiet moments and resolved itself after about 30 seconds. I therefore find it odd that people have had trouble as they work perfectly well and have added to my overall enjoyment of the game. especially in the use of items and in the ingenious boss battles. anyways, I think the art style is beautiful and makes the most out of the Wii hardware. I love the whole paint effect. my only gripe in the entire game would be that there are odd pixels/vertical lines in darker areas, the sky and in certain blocks of a single colour. I’ve tried the game on four different TVs (two HD and two CRT) with different cables but the same Wii and it’s always there. Here is a link to what I have been seeing. This is someone else’s video.
I’ve yet to determine the exact cause of the problem but it hasn’t really detracted from the experience. It’s a minor annoyance. is Skyward Sword the best Zelda to date? That’s open to debate but it’s definitely up there. In terms of the amount of fun I’ve had with it, the laugh out loud moments and the times where I’ve thought ‘wow’ in regards to puzzle and boss design then it could be my personal favourite. Thomas. J Millington GC: It’s not a bug or glitch. we suspect it’s because the game is using an unusual resolution and/or colour palette and that’s the downside to it. Perhaps a reader knows the more technical explanation. Legendary game just completed Zelda: Skyward Sword. I’ve got to say I must agree, game of the year by a country mile. Nintendo really have reinvented the Zelda formula, I may struggle to go back to Ocarina Of Time’s ‘press B to attack’ controls after thoroughly getting absorbed into the motion-controlled sword play. I look forward to whatever new Zelda comes out next whether it be 3DS or Wii U. Leroy PS: I’ve managed to persuade two of my friends to get dark Souls, they love it. Now a couple of their friends have bought a copy now. Go me. my big fat geek wedding I’d like to echo the comments of King of the Bongo, who expressed his desire for Cannon Fodder on iOS, whilst stating my own personal craving for Mega-Lo-Mania, another Amiga classic and if anything even better suited to the touchscreen format. Heck, whilst I’m at it I’d also like the following, either on iOS or Xbox Live; Lemmings, Populous II, Xenon 2, X-COM: Enemy Unknown and Rainbow Islands. obviously there’s an Amiga slant to that list, but that’s because my Amiga doesn’t work anymore. Time has been kinder to my collection of past consoles. on a completely different point, I just got married to the lovely Aela the Huntress in Skyrim, and I felt strangely nervous as the big day approached, and thought the ceremony itself was curiously moving. In fact, although I appreciate how clearly nuts this sounds, but it stirred up memories of my real life wedding last summer. Thankfully my actual wife isn’t armed to the teeth nor does she read GC as I think she’d kill me if she knew I’d compared our special day with a quest in a video game… wriggy74 PS: I’d just like to make it clear that other than there being a bride and a groom there were virtually no other similarities between the two ceremonies. I certainly wasn’t carrying an Ebony Bow of Storms at the time, dressed like a messenger of death, and my wife hadn’t covered her face in war paint whilst wielding her own bow. we left that for the honeymoon. Savvy assistants just wanted to say that even though you hadn’t heard of the actor, Rob Riggle, in the new call Of Duty Elite ad I found it funny and to be honest I thought it was better than the Noob and the Vet which had Sam Worthington and Jonah Hill in. Anyway, I hadn’t seen anything in the Inbox lately about clueless staff in our local game shops but I came across one the other day in GAME. Having seen a Zavvi exclusive deal for Resident Evil: Revelations with the Circle Pad Pro (£32.95) I asked the guy if GAME were doing a similar deal by pairing or offering a reduced offer on buying both. the response I got was ‘ What Circle Pad?’ I said to him surely you know about the 3DS Circle Pad Pro? he looked across the counter at his mate who also looked back with a blank look and said I’m sure that we’ll know nearer the release date. I’ve pre-ordered the Zavvi deal as I don’t think GAME deserve my money anymore. Don’t get me wrong there are some good knowledgeable staff around but in my store they decided that divs would do. Also, the Darkness II demo was excellent and has convinced me to get it. I need something to take me away from Modern Warfare 3. I think I’m more addicted than ever! TopSnot GPF (gamertag) GC: Rob Riggle is a cool name we’ll give him that. on the Run just wanted to say thanks very much to bumplummer and Rob for help regarding the GC website on the PlayStation 3. At the weekend I purchased need For Speed: the Run, but with all the talk about Xbox 360 accounts being hacked on EA games I was wondering if I go online with this game, would my information be compromised? need tree fiddy GC: There’s still no evidence that it would be, despite what many suspect. Inbox also-rans Do you know where I can pre-order the Mass Effect 3: N7 Collector’s Edition from for the Xbox 360? I have looked all over the Net and asked in various stores but only the PlayStation 3 and PC seem to have a Collector’s Edition. Surely that can’t be right? Martin Howe GC: It’s on the GAME website – they’ve been having some issues with products disappearing from their system this week, so that may have been the problem.
Heads up for all Vita anticipators! Uncharted: Golden Abyss has just gone up on HMV for pre-order at £25! Together with Gamestop discounting the console by £35 too, I shouldn’t have too much problem kitting myself up for launch after all! AbominableSloth (gamertag) Anyone know if you pre-order consoles online they come early like games do? I want a PS Vita. Did anyone get their 3DS early? on a consoles launch day I want to get my hands on it as soon as possible so I usually get the consoles in town, you just don’t know when it’ll turn up if you get them online. Bobbleheaddy Grainger Games are selling Catherine new for £25. Too embarrassed to buy it though. CrackCity_Rocker (PSN ID) GC: Why? It’s not a dirty movie. This week’s Hot Topic For this week’s discussion we want to know what your least favourite bit is in a game you otherwise really enjoyed. It doesn’t have to be a game-ruining problem but what niggles, flaws or unwanted features annoy you in some of your favourite games? is it a particular level, an ability you can never get the hang of – or a missing feature that seems obvious to you but that the game doesn’t have? is it a problem with checkpointing or saving perhaps? Or the difficulty level in general? maybe a graphical issue or some other technical problem? How much did the issue affect your enjoyment of the game? In general does a game have to be near perfect for you to enjoy it or are you happy to put up with a bunch of poorly implemented features if the core experience is enjoyable?
